Okay...so I had a huge long response all typed up for your "Expericences/opinions/solicited advice" and then decided it was just way too long for a comment. So, if you'd like to bounce on over to my blog I'll be putting up my thoughts on car buying shortly.

go nissan, baby! i just bought a pathfinder last weekend (i totaled my car and had no choice but to find something new), and i love, love, LOVE it! the car i totaled was a nissan xterra, and it was also a great car. i loved it, and it was my first new car purchase 3 years ago. nissans, toyotas, and hondas keep awesome re-sale values (besides the fact that they live forever), and i've had one of each throughout my driving life. they are all great choices. nothing against the good ol' american brands, but i'd go foreign! :)
